Spring Term 2017

March - Healthy Eating
The children have been learning about healthy eating. We thought about which foods are healthy and which foods are not and why they are healthy or unhealthy. The children also made their own fruit salad, they showed excellent fine motor skills in cutting the grapes, bananas and pears. The children worked as a team to then mix all the ingredients together and then serve each other their fruit salads.

February - Chinese New Year
Reception have been learning about Chinese New Year. The children used ‘Talk for Writing’ actions to retell the story to their friends.  We also created our own dragons and watched a real like dragon dance being performed.  The children tried their hand at writing in mandarin, they were able to write their name and some numbers.

January - Let's Celebrate
This half term, Owl Class have been exploring the theme ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ We have celebrated our families, sharing the story ‘Stickman’ and the children created their own family trees; we also made an Owl Class Family Tree! We have been busy learning about different celebrations such as Chinese New Year, using ‘Talk for Writing’ to retell the story of Chinese New Year, and the children wrote their own New Year’s Resolutions.

January - Changes
The children in Hedgehog Class have been learning about the season ‘winter’, we have been observing the changes in weather and environment around us. As part of Woodland Explorers we noticed that the trees had changed and were very bare. The children used pencils and chalks to sketch their own pictures of the winter trees. They then used their phonic knowledge to write labels for some of the things they had drawn. We have made a display of our pictures outside our classroom, feel free to come and see them.
