Year 3 Learning Examples

Year 3 had a fantastic day for History Off the Page. Students engaged in a variety of activities that brought history to life, including:

  • Exploring the Greek agora
  • Making olive oil
  • Creating ancient medicines
  • Carving and making clay pots
  • Writing on a wax tablet

The day concluded with students acting out Greek myths and enjoying a Greek feast together. It was an enriching experience that fostered creativity and collaboration among the students.

Here are some pictures of our fantastic setting descriptions. The children were given a scene of a rainy day by a river to inspire them to use powerful watery vocabulary to mark World Water Day. The children then used blue pen to publish and make their writing look like a river.

Year 3 have been learning about Holy Week and learnt about how different people celebrate Easter.

Evensong is a historic service held at St John’s College, Cambridge that our Year 3 children were privileged to be part of. In the weeks leading up to this, the director for St John’s outreach programme, Naomi MacLeod-Jones, worked with our Year 3 children to practice choral songs in school.

In Art, Year 3 have really enjoyed learning about Greek meanders and used these to create their own meanders on printing blocks.

Year 3 have been learning about Ancient Greek Art, they found out that meanders are continuous line pattern that are used to decorate architecture and pottery. Inspired by these wonderful patterns, the children investigated materials they could use to make printing blocks to create their own repeating patterns.

In Science, Toucan Class have been investigating forces and conducted an investigation to find out whether the surface a ball rolls on impacts how far it rolls. They discovered that the smoother the surface is the further the ball rolls because there is less friction slowing the ball down.

On Thursday16th October, we celebrated World Values Day our theme this year was 'bringing us together'. We paired up with another year group and worked together to make paper doll chains. As we made our dolls, we chatted and got to know each other, we were surprised to find out we had so many things in common. See if you can spot our paper doll chains next time you are in school!
